Irritable bowel syndrome
Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is the most common causes of chronic diarrhea, it can cause crampy abdominal pain and changes in bowel habits. IBS can develop after having an infection.
Inflammatory bowel disease
There are many types of inflammatory bowel disease, two of the most common of which are Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis.
These problems may develop when the immune system attacks parts of the digestive tract.
Infections
Intestinal infections, sometimes called "food poisoning," are common cause of chronic diarrhea in people who live in developing countries countries, or in people who travel abroad.
Intestinal infections can develop after eating contaminated food or drinking contaminated water or unpasteurized ("raw") milk.
Food allergy or sensitivity
Food allergies and hypersensitivity is one of the causes chronic diarrhea. People with celiac disease often have diarrhea and weight loss.
Colon cancer
When the cancer blocks the passage of stool, it usually causes constipation. Sometimes, there is secretion of water behind the blockage, and liquid stool from behind the blockage leaks around the cancer and result in diarrhea
